The Third Circuit Court ruling in "Prometheus Radio Project v. FCC" especially took issue with the FCC's rule changes which allowed for "cross-ownership" of newspapers and broadcast stations, and the concentration of broadcast ownership, in local markets. Together, these rules would have allowed one corporation to own three TV stations, 8 radio stations, and the monopoly newspaper in a single market. The court has ordered the FCC to revise the regulations or give a better justification for their necessity. In the meantime, media reform groups such as Free Press are encouraging people to demand a public hearing in their city - and take back their media! [SFBay IMC Feature] Globally, public media control looks just as grim, with media moguls such as Italy's Berlusconi and Canadas's Leonard Asper owning over half of the media landscape and taking advantage of the power of censorship.
