The coradino correctional facility in Poala has often made the news, however the truth of what is happening inside is rarely told. Why? Because most issues are dealt with by the prison authorities, or carfully manufactured before being realesed to the news.
The infamous inquiry on whether the Armed Forces had used “excessive force” in breaking up a peaceful protest by immigrants detained at Safi Detention center one year ago has been released a few days ago. The report by Justice Franco Depasquale, a retired Judge, has been criticized both by commentators on the daily media and by NGOs. The inquiry was ordered on the 13th of January 2005, the same day that the incident took place.
An ethnic meal, organized by the University Anthropological Society, was celebrated yesterday evening at the Marsa immigrants centre. A buffet with recipes from different countries being Malta, Somalia, Liberia, India (and Pakistan) and Congo was served. The traditional Maltese pastizzi (cheesecakes) met their match with the fried bread and vegetables. A variety of ethnic food was served to accommodate the tastes of different people; from spices to sweet and from sweet to sour.
The Malteese government has long boasted that there are no people living on the streets in malta. This is true, however they also fail to announce the amount of old people most of whom have no family to help them, are living in run down houses without any heating and alot of whom dont even have electricity.
Monday 19.12.05: Sources close to IMC-Malta have revealed that political parties in Malta are infringing Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament, which relates to “the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data”.
While intolerance against those who are coloured, gays, disabled or are different have always been present in Malta, yesterday evening three Members of Parliament, from both parties, denounced this negative attitude which have always led towards hatred.
Campaigners from the Stopoverty Campaign organized the local Whiteband Day III this morning at Valletta. The Whiteband Day III is an international activity, calling for protest against the World Trade Organizations, whose annual meeting it taking place on the 13th of December in Hong Kong this year round.
