Why? Because most issues are dealt with by the prison authorities, or carfully manufactured before being realesed to the news. The infamous inquiry on whether the Armed Forces had used “excessive force” in breaking up a peaceful protest by immigrants detained at Safi Detention center one year ago has been released a few days ago. The report by Justice Franco Depasquale, a retired Judge, has been criticized both by commentators on the daily media and by NGOs. The inquiry was ordered on the 13th of January 2005, the same day that the incident took place. An ethnic meal, organized by the University Anthropological Society, was celebrated yesterday evening at the Marsa immigrants centre. A buffet with recipes from different countries being Malta, Somalia, Liberia, India (and Pakistan) and Congo was served. The traditional Maltese pastizzi (cheesecakes) met their match with the fried bread and vegetables.
