I'm an American living in France at the moment. Someone from my company's home office in the US was here a couple of months ago after a short trip to Germany during which he visited his sister who teaches at a DoD dependent's school. He had talked to a few career US military officers stationed in the area who told him that they're planning on staying in Europe after they retire. These aren't radical left wing thinkers, these were people who trained for most of their careers to fight a war against the Soviet Union. Their belief is that the US is becoming too much like the former USSR, and it scares them alot.
