"Of all days to use Ohio as a political backdrop, the president - no friend of working people - has chosen Labor Day. I hope his tour of the state will include the empty factories and bankrupt corporations," said Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, one of nine Democrats vying to challenge Bush.

Webmaster Sentenced to Federal Prison
Sherman Austin, webmaster of RaisetheFist.com, was sentenced today, August 4, 2003, to one year in federal prison, with three years of probation. Judge Wilson shocked the courtroom when he went against the recommendation of not only the prosecution, but the FBI and the Justice Department, who had asked that Austin be sentenced to 4 months in prison, and 4 months in a half-way house, with 3 years of probation.

findlaw.com - John Dean commentary
This month, the General Accounting Office (GAO) - the investigative and auditing arm of Congress - issued a report that contains some startling revelations. Though they are couched in very polite language, they are bombshells nonetheless.
The report - entitled "Energy Task Force: Process Used to Develop the National Energy Policy" - and its accompanying Chronology strongly imply that the Administration has, in effect, been paying off its heavy-hitting energy industry contributors. It also very strongly implies that Vice President Dick Cheney lied to Congress.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 -- Members of the Navajo Nation have been cheated out of tens of millions of dollars of trust revenue by the Secretary of the Interior who, in concert with major oil & gas companies, has permitted them to profit from sweetheart deals for rights of way across the Indians' individual trust lands in the West, a court official said today.
Special Master Balaran found that Interior Secretary Gale Norton has violated federal law and breached her trust duties to the Indians by allowing contracts that grossly undervalue individual Navajo trust lands, as much as 20 to 200 times below comparable lands owned by non-Indians and tribes. This allowed the gas companies to run pipelines to California at a fraction of real market costs.
The complete report is available at www.indiantrust.com

Have you ever heard of the School of the Americas--it goes also by the School of the Assassins according to protesters and human rights activists. Now it is officially WHISC or WHINSEC. Anyway, I think King's 1960s words of the interrelationship between militarism, economic exploitation, and racism are particularly relevant in news in this article.
Many other articles, progressive thinkers, and political philosophers support this author's truth. You can go to the SOA Watch website for more on this general issue: www.soaw.org
Also, there's a political cartoonist named Latuff--search for his cartoons, especially the ones on "Palestinians" and "Coke," yes the kind you drink. Then go to www.atlanta.indymedia.org and look at their links about unions, violence, and Capitalistic corporations surrounding the Coca-cola question.
