Hundreds of concerned Kansas City citizens in hazmat suits, face shields and rubber gloves will quarantine the 6,100 Wal-Mart managers and executives who are meeting at the Bartle Hall in downtown Kansas City.

The "Bureau of Workers Health", organized by Kansas City ACORN and the Ruckus Society, will be armed with yellow caution tape, health hazard signs, and "Notices of Quarantine." Individuals of the Bureau will serve the notices to the Wal-Mart managers as they come in and out of the center, directly confronting them about their store's policies.

The quarantine will focus on Wal-Mart's failure to provide health care to a majority of its employees, an issue recently in the media spotlight. Two weeks ago, Maryland passed a law compelling Wal-Mart to improve its health care benefits. Now, several other states are moving forward with similar legislation.

"It is outrageous that the largest corporation in the world has full-time workers who are forced to enroll in Medicaid at the Missouri tax-payers expense," said Head Organizer of ACORN Kansas City, Andrew Ginsberg. The average pay for a Wal-Mart sales associate is $1,000 below the poverty line for a family of three. Company employees top Medicaid rolls in at least 16 states.
