It has been surmised that the existence of hate groups such as Westboro Baptist Church, Unity Blvd and Equal Justice Coalition have contributed to the rising crime rate and the un-livability in Topeka.
In Dr Richard Florida's book "The Rise Of The Creative Class", Florida researches and compares many cities across North America and examines what contributes to their livability, crime rates, real estate values, and desirability as a city to live in.
The abstract basic idea is that communities that are tolerant and accepting and even supportive of diverse cultures and lifestyle almost invariably attract bigger and better new businesses, have healthier economies, and higher property values. Compared to cities where diverse cultures are discouraged, and alternative lifestyles are suppressed and discriminated against, are cities that also loose their larger and better paying employers, lose their better students to other cities, have depressed economies, higher crime and do not grow.
Topeka's population has not grown for the last 25 years, and in recent years, several of Topeka's biggest employers have pulled up stakes and moved out of the city, leaving thousands out of work. As the Sperlings report indicates, the crime rate has steadily risen. While property values have fallen, tax-appraisals have not fallen in Topeka.
The conclusion? The intolerant and even violently discriminating atmosphere created in a large part by Topeka's hate groups, especially the Westboro Baptist Church, Ironically named Equal Justice Coalition and Unity Blvd have created enough devision, schisms, distrust and intolerance within the community as a whole that the city has fallen to a new low in stagnation and despair and a new high in crime, violence and joblessness.
High school aged people in Topeka have become increasingly violent and intolerant in their behavior and attitudes, often times with the training and encouragement of hate groups such as Equal Justice Coalition, and Fred Phelps Westboro Baptist Church. This also encourages the more intelligent youth to leave Topeka, and never return at the first possible chance. The result is a brain-drain that leaves the less intelligent and less cultured Topeka's to inter-breed with each other.
The trend will most likely never reverse itself until the community as a whole wakes up and takes a stand against intolerance and hatefulness displayed by the local hate groups, and replaces the sitting politicians that profit and rule using these hate groups as political pawns. |
