"Shoot to Kill Order" for G8 Summit, RNC, DNC Current rating: 0
28 May 2004
Modified: 06:29:51 PM
Along with Ashcroft's new "threataganda" released yesterday, police are ordered to "shoot to kill" at G8, RNC, DNC...
From Pacifica.com:
Georgia’s governor has issued a pre-emptive state of emergency in 6 coastal counties until June 20th hoping to curb protests at the upcoming G8 meeting on a seaside island 90-miles south of Savannah. Separately, the city of Brunswick, Georgia created a new law that gives police the right stop and break up any protests without providing a reason if a state of emergency exists. Brunswick is the nearest mainland town to the G8 conference location. Military and security teams will be authorized to shoot to kill to protect world leaders from the most developed nations and their entourages at the summit. However, Georgia conservation officials will also train the details to stay away from endangered species on and around the island. Organizers from the peace and justice movement, who are planning protests, are criticizing the curbing of demonstrations as an “overreaction.”

And, incredibly, not satire from AP:

"G8 Critters"

BRUNSWICK, GA (AP) -- Military and security forces will be authorized to shoot to kill while policing Sea Island and its surrounding waters during next month's G8 summit.
But they'll be careful not to step on turtle eggs or mow over a manatee while they're doing it.
Georgia natural resources officials have trained forces from the military, Secret Service and other agencies on how keep an eye out
for the coastal region's natural inhabitants -- including several endangered species.
The coastal division diretor with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Susan Shipman, says -- quote -- "We've tried to make them aware, to show them the sensitive areas. There's really been a sense from the G8 people of wanting to make everything as environmentally friendly as possible."
Since violent protests broke out at the 2001 summit in Genoa, Italy, G8 organizers have looked for meeting sites in remote areas that are easier to secure from protesters than previous urban sites.
When Canada hosted the summit in 2002, the resort of Kananaskis, in the Canadian Rockies, was chosen.
But such sites are home to more wildlife and unspoiled nature, and create additional challenges for planners.
In Georgia, that includes four varieties of endangered or threatened sea turtles that nest on the barrier islands, including Sea Island, to lay their eggs.
Manatees, including the endangered West Indian manatee, move into Georgia waters in March or early April and stay as late as November.
Several endangered shore birds nest in the coastal marshes, and alligators, whales and dolphins all frequent the 120 square miles of delicate ecosystem that will be heavily policed by the Coast Guard, Natural Resources department and other boats.

Associated Press

and finally, from San Francisco IndyMedia:
SHOOT TO KILL ORDERED AT G8 IN GEORGIA
by Dandelion Thursday May 27, 2004 at 05:37 AM
ryceugene (at) yahoo.com

Pacifica News and the AP have both stated in the last two days that there is potential for the use of Lethal Force at the G8, DNC, and RNC this summer. Read on...

On May, 25 2004 Pacifica News reported on their daily news broadcast about the current orders being given to the police that will be responding to the G8 conference in Georgia this year. According to the broadcast, the governor of Georgia (as of May 25th), was going through the motions of declaring a “state of emergency” during the G8 protest. This so called “state of emergency” would allow the police in the entire state to break up, any and all “gatherings of people” to protest any event. However, the suspension of the first amendment is not the only card up this governor’s sleeve.

In correlation with this “state of emergency” the commander of the police forces has ordered a “SHOOT TO KILL” order, that will pertain to all individuals that the police themselves feel are “threatening” the lives of “world leaders” that will be gathering for the event. This order will only go into effect if the governor is capable of issuing a state of emergency. But, you did hear me right, “SHOOT TO KILL.”

Upon hearing this my partner and I were shocked to say the least. Both of us want to be in Georgia this summer, but money is not permitting a cross country trip. Immediately upon hearing this new’s both of us attempted to brush it under the rug with as many excuses as possible, things like:

“They’d never do that”
“I bet it is only if the protesters break through a certain perimeter”
“This is just a scare tactic”
etc.

We were shocked, to say the least.

That was until today. According to the Associated Press On May 25th John Ashcroft made a press release to the public about potential terrorist attacks that will be carried out this summer. Ashcroft stated that this threat is highly probable, and that there is a grave danger of our nation being struck this summer. During this press release he stated that there were three high priority targets that would be considered major threats. These targets were: THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION, THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION, and THE G8 CONFERENCE. The point of this is not to debate whether or not Al Qaida will strike these targets, but rather is to look at this announcement in terms of what it means to the activist community. By announcing that the G8 conference is an Al Qaida target, Ashcroft increased the chances for the governor of Georgia to approve imposing a state of emergency during the conference. This would then result in the “shoot to kill” order being instated while the meeting is taking place.

This is something we all need to be aware of. The powers of oppression have used the War [of] Terror to raise the stakes yet again. They are authorizing the use of lethal force against any, and all threats that “THEY” deem appropriate. This is scary, especially after watching the pepper spraying of children, and the non-lethal application of force on the elderly and disabled, that has happened in the past year all over the U.S. Be prepared!!!
