It's time to alert the media and blast this message out to every individual and group each of us has in our address books. We don't yet know the extent of the fraud in this year's election, but there's clearly been fraud. Compare the exit polls, which have historically been quite accurate, with the "official counts" from electronic voting machines.
We REFUSE to accept a Bush victory unless and until EVERY VOTE IS COUNTED!! Kansas City is ready to do something about it. Here's how you can help:
* RALLY TODAY, NOV. 3, RAIN OR SHINE:

* MEETING TONIGHT: City-wide info meeting to be held TONIGHT at 7:00 at the Teamsters' Hall, 4501 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. Speakers include Dave Peterson (President, United Auto Workers), Rev. Ester Holzendorf or Kaia Gibson, and Randy Glass (Veterans for Kerry).Tell your friends and neighbors!

I recently looked at a disclosure that showed whom donated money in my city to which candidates and I was just blown away. And it didn’t even take into consideration what was spent by Unions, corporations, special interest groups, small business, and foreign governments. I had looked months ago and was surprised then at the amount.
Imagine if all that money spent betting on presidential candidates were used in your local community on projects that you and your neighbors had decided together would be advantageous and bettering for your community. Now imagine if all that money that your other neighborhoods gave to politicians were used locally. Now imagine that across your whole community, in your whole city. Now imagine your whole state. Bet you that everyone would have enough to eat, a house, a bike or two, free health care, good streets with all kinds of bike paths etc. Only your imagination is the limit. Billions and billions of dollars when in the end most of the money was donated to candidates that weren’t picked to represent their party or to a losing minor party and then to one of the two major party candidates who lost the election and ultimately to the one whom won only to have them lie and do the exact opposite of what they told you they were going to do while lying and telling you they’re not. Then they waste even more of your money through squandering the money they take from you via taxes and spending it on programs and other things that are so far removed from what makes a real difference in your day to day life that it’s almost unbelievable i.e. war, “humanitarian interventions”, “war on terror”, weapons/arms race, vacations, party bickering, defending reform that will just change next election, 2,000 dollar screw drivers, “free trade”, helping murder people, military coup, more taxes/less beneficial change, inventing laws, not regulating capitalism in your interest but rather in the interest of the top 1% (their relatives), lying to you, lying to you, lying to you, more cops to keep the poor in line…I could go on and on and on and you could too. You could have had real, tangible and lasting change that directly benefited you and your community. Change that couldn’t be voted away or changed at the whim of some beaurocracy or untouchable “representative”. Change that came directly from you; people power and personal empowerment. You are no longer a spectator or socio/politically impotent. Think about this concept for every campaign you see. And then think about how little power the president actually has and what decisions that office can actually make. It aint much. But then think about this concept for congress and senate, mayor and governor etc. All just thrown away. |

For most people this, voting is the extent of their participation and they actually think theyve done or accomplished something. Nothing will change; same corruption and death. I too am more than annoyed. I think its so sad that the majority of these people are going to push that button thinking and believing that leaders or parties or politicians are going to make things better or work in the interest of the people. These people whom are voting for kerry will undoubtedly, when election time is over contingent upon him winning, go back to their regular lives feeling as though theyvre made a difference and that today will be the climax of the culmination of their efforts and they will delude themselves into believing that things are better even in the face of events to the contrary. When wars continue to happen, the patriot act doesnt go away, more "free trade" continues with NAFTA and ilk still left on the books and capitaism as the impetus and hierarchy as the crux, they will look the other way or see a different picture all together. Never mind that the democrats have been responsible for more untold suffering and murder than the republicans, never mind that bush hasnt yet murdered as many as the last democrat to hold that office, never mind that as far as one can remember niether party has worked to end oppression or servitude but have instead worked to strengthen all the systemic ills of our system, never mind that the state is institutionalized violence and capitalism is inherently unstable, expansionary and murderous, never mind all of that.
What happens tomorrow when nothing changes for the better and were left with the same tired old program? What will happen then? Nothing much i'd suspect and i doubt I'll see any of them along side me working for social change or working to oppose the horrible policies and murder that Kerry will certainly pursue. But it looks as though Kerry has lost and perhaps, one can only hope that this will radicalize these folks and they will work for real change rather than all that time spent on trying changing figure heads. We could all go out into the streets tomorrow and embrace one another working together to change things as we see fit on our own terms and in our interest. |

What needs to be talked about is not the counting but where we go from here. The great progressive answer to the Bush question was vote him out. Well, that didn't work becuase this nation demonstrates again that it is incapable of thinking for itself.
So, in light of all of this, do we stand around and say, "Gosh, we'll try again in another four years"? Contrary to what many are saying, our collective backs are up against the wall.
All attempts to reform this government have failed and will continue to do so becuase the country is paralyzed by the inept and evil. Everyone who wants to do something about it can, it's just about having the will and the depth of belief to take it where it needs to go. One person can change everything but it takes the spark to light the fire.
As we sit here on this day after the (s)election, think to yourselves if your willing to risk living in subjugation or are willing to stand up for what you believe. Ballots and signs aren't protest, they're shackles. |

The time to organize is now. To let this moment pass and not seize upon it would be a grave mistake. Aside from ideology, aside from party politics, aside from all that flows beneath as so much sewage we need to rise above. Lets not take back our country but take back our nieghborhoods, communities and lives. Together we can do this and we can start tonight. Tonight it could all change. |

Oh god, dont waste folks time by rallying around a lost cause. Could you imagine folks actually rallying around this for months or years when they could be working to organize community gardens, industrial/workplace democracy, alternative transportation...community? Please no more of this! |

OR we could eschew all authentic activities in the community altogether, sit back at our bookstore and poo-poo everything that is going on. People participate in electoral politics, people watch television, people eat meat. It's great to take a stand and say "I don't participate" but you've got zero connection to how people actually think and behave in this country, instead opting for armchair elitism and lifestyle politics.
I'm interested in building a movement that participates both in reform and revolutionary activities. This action is a good place for the more radical folks to show up and let it be known what should be going on. |

Ooh! A cheap shot at the local radical bookstore. Instead of rebutting or discussing the comments made here, you take a cheap shot at a project trying to help out the entire community. That's just very sad. |

There are some things we could be doing here in Kansas City which should happen regardless of the election outcome. We need to put together a local anti-capitalist coalition to organize direct action in workplaces and in communities. We need to train people on how to organize other people. The radicals and progressives in KC need to support this website, by volunteering andby doing journalism for it. We need an alternative newspaper in town.
KKFI needs out support, but we should be more ambitious. The liberals need to fight to get Air America on the air here. We need more radical and progressive programming on other radio and TV stations. There is much we can do to reform media here in Kansas City.
We need to tackle racism in this community. We need to take on the local corporate fat cats.
We've got lots of work to do! |

Hey just wanted to say real quick. I'm with the bookstore that I can only assume is being talked about. I have my personal opinions on electoral politics and everyone else involved in the project have theirs as well.
An important strength of the bookstore is that we do not all subscribe to a single ideology. Yes, we sell anarchist books. But we are not an anarchist bookstore. If you look at the shelves you will find just as many classic liberal books and even party communist books.
As for Vlad. He may or may not be involved with the project. I'm guessing it is not his real name. I think it is dangerous and decisive to assume that he automatically is a part of the project AND that all we do is "sit back at our bookstore and poo-poo everything that is going on."
The bookstore is a start to a much larger project in KC that hopes to make a tangible change. This cannot be done, however, if we have pissing matches between sects of the progressive community.
Lets keep critique and debates respectful. |
