After using all possible extensions, KKFI management finally had to file their IRS Form 990.
Lack of transparency in financial dealings is one of many aspects of KKFI management practices that the Friends of Community Radio are fighting to overturn. See http://reclaimkkfi.org |
kkfi-2001-IRSform990.pdf (532 k) |
This is the 2001 IRS form 990 for Mid-Coast Radio Project, the parent 501c3 nonprofit that owns KKFI 90.1 FM and its 100,000 watt transmitter.
Note these highlights:
- Revenue reported: $203,024
- 2001 Cash on hand dropped from $22,944 to MINUS $1,746
- Savings or temporary cash investments jumped from $67,966 to $102,504
- In addition to claiming unrestricted assests of $151,647 at the end of 2001, a pool of restricted funds of $40,731 was also reported, raised in 2001. Are these funds those raised to effect the move to an accessible location? KKFI management raised funds for this purpose, and show no signs of making the move.
- On page 6, KKFI reports only $3,628 in underwriting income. This confirms that the constant underwriting mentions on air are not generating cash income for the station. It is known that KKFI management accepts trades for on air mentions, such as dining privileges at Californos. The estimated value of underwriting mentions in 2001-2002 is well into six figures. |

Persons of the Metro:
This goes to show, emphatically, that Robert Barrientos needs to be extracated by station directors. The trouble is they are all beholden to him for their seats on the board. People, riseup and make your voices heard at the station, in the myriad of print media venues that cover the 100,000 watt coverage area, and other forms of electronic media!
Use it Kansas City, or you will, you will lose it! |
