HIROSHIMA/NAGASAKI 60th REMEMBRANCE
The 60th Remembrance of the bombings of Hiroshima/Nagasaki, Japan August 6, 2005 (Saturday), 8:00 PM Loose Park lake (south of Plaza), 53rd & Wornall, KCMO
Nuclear weapons, the most destructive weapons known, were used in August, 1945. We continue to suffer the aftermath. We continue to live with the threat of nuclear weapons – possessed by 8-9 nation states; 20 other nation states have the technology and materials to create such a weapon; terrorists and criminals seek to possess such weapons; and our nation and others seek to use new technologies to make smaller, more mobile nuclear weapons. Our future is at stake. Are we the peoples of this earth determined to “Never Again” use the most destructive weapons to cast nuclear shadows and destruction?
The program will include speakers, a candle light vigil, music, shadow drawings (in Hirohima/Nagasaki, shadows were left where persons had been before the nuclear bomb disintegrated them from the blast), your reflections, and the annual floating lantern ceremony.
If we insist on a nuclear policy directed toward peace, instead of war, a sane nuclear policy to bring down the levels of armaments and reduce the dangers of war, and full funding of domestic programs for education, health care and retirement, then we urge you to support HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 392.
All persons are urged to attend. This program is hosted by PeaceWorks, KC, 4509 Walnut, KCMO 64111, (816) 561-1181, www.peaceworkskc.org.
