Copwatch is a nation wide movement to battle abusive police through the documentation of misconduct. A chapter has recently formed in Kansas City due to multiple reports of Westport Security routinely utilizing unnecessary physical force. It is our intention to record incidents to aid victims of assault, and to hold Westport Security and police accountable for their actions. |

A chapter has recently formed in Kansas City due to multiple reports of Westport Security routinely utilizing unnecessary physical force. KC Copwatch began its first patrols Friday night. A group of 11 people divided up into surveillance teams to shadow Westport security. Flyers were also handed out explaining the purpose of the organization along with what to do if you witness an attack by security or the police. The police obtained a copy and quickly spread word to all patrolling the area. Officers were on their best behavior throughout the night knowing they were being watched.
This was a small victory Friday night, but in order to ensure the end of the usage of excessive force, this must be a common occurrence. We need more volunteers and equipment. If you would like to get involved, or if you can donate money, an old video camera, or voice recorder please contact us immediately at copwatch (at) kcdirectaction.net. |
