The corporate media got it wrong on Iraq and so many other issues. Listen to programs that got it right |
Below is an announcement about KKFI scheduling changes that Judy Ancel of
KKFI and of the Institute for Labor Studies is sending out.
A few shuffles in the schedule may seem like a simple thing, but at a
community radio station, governed by volunteers, each with a different vision of how
to best meet the station's mission of informing and entertaining the
listeners, beset with financial challenges and management shakeups, setting up a fair
process for programming changes has been a difficult task. These changes
result from a huge amount of work by a number of people. It is not possible to do
anything like that with 100 percent unanimity of all concerned, but this
happened with the support of a great number of KKFI board members, volunteers, and
programmers, including many who might be considered "music people" who did so
for the greater good at the expense of their most direct musical interests and
passions.
So much depends on media coverage, locally and nationally. As a Democracy
NOW billboard put it, "the corporate media got it wrong on Iraq, listen to the
show that got it right." The war in Iraq could have never happened if the
corporate media had actually done the job of a free press. So many of decisions
directly and indirectly related to the "war" in Iraq made the miserable failure
in New Orleans possible. KKFI is just one little community radio station,
but it is a full power 100,000-watt FM station, and we aim to do our best to
inform listeners on local and global events in ways that can't be heard in the
corporate media. While election irregularities and neo-con abuses have been
dismissed, ignored and distorted in the major media, good, important information
has come to you on KKFI on Democracy NOW and other local and national shows.
If you appreciate these changes, and want us to continue improving, please
support KKFI. Listen to the station; tell your friends and neighbors to listen.
Consider volunteering and/or becoming an Active Member, a member of the KKFI
governing body. Call the station at 816-931-3122 and tell them that you
appreciate the programming changes, or call for more information. Email the
programming committee at KKFIProgramming (at) yahoo.com and tell them you appreciate the
changes- or email me and I'll pass it on. Visit the website, www.kkfi.org,
to find out about meetings or to donate online. Consider making a financial
contribution anytime, or during the next pledge drive. Please show your
appreciation for news and public affairs programming on KKFI. A lot of people
worked very hard to make these changes happen. Future improvements could fizzle,
and even current changes could go away if you don't demonstrate support and
appreciation.

Here's the announcement:
Starting Monday September 12th, KKFI's national news show, Democracy Now
will move to 8:00 AM weekdays. If you've never had a dose of Amy
Goodman's penetrating interviews from Baghdad to New Orleans, you need
this medicine. It's the guaranteed antidote to administration lies and
corporate spin.
A new hour of public affairs will air weekdays from 9-10AM. Shows
include: New Dimensions, Radio Nation, Counterspin, Alternative Radio,
WINGS, Making Contact and Euroquest.
Jim Hightower's short commentaries will now be at 7:30 AM and again at
6:00 PM
WIN will move to 7:57 AM just before Democracy Now and also be aired
weekdays 5:57 A.M., and 4:57 P.M
Our regular music shows The Morning Buzz and Midday Medley will be from
6-7:57 AM and 10 AM-Noon respectively
On Saturdays Every Woman expands to 4-5pm and a new show Tell Somebody
by Heartland Labor Forum's own Albert Likona will air 5:30-6pm. KKFI is
also adding a new hip-hop program called Show Me Mix with Deshai from
8-10pm.
Heartland Labor Forum remains at its same times: Thursdays 6-7 PM and
Fridays 5-6 AM |
