Dear Friends:
I'm sending this to most of the activists and people I know who care about the earth, justice, and education about things that matter. On October 18 we will have a great opportunity to reach a lot of people with progressive ideas. That's the day that two things are happening:
1. The United Steelworkers are initiating (hopefully with your help) a grand protest against the Free Trade Area of the Americas as a caravan passes through Kansas City that day on its way from Seattle to Miami and the protests there against the FTAA ministerial November 20-21. For more info on the FTAA and why citizens who believe in self government, public employees, construction workers, service workers, educators, etc. need to get informed on this latest "free trade" deal see http://www.citizen.org/trade/ftaa/
2. Rolling Thunder is coming to town that day too and we will coordinate these two events. This is a kind of people's county fair with all kinds of progressive education, demonstrations, booths, speakers, music, games and fun starring Jim Hightower. The more community groups and unions involved, the better it will be. It's booked for Penn Valley Community College. For more info on Rolling Thunder, see: http://www.rollingthundertour.org/
To pull this off, we need your help. So here's two ways you can do it:
1. Rolling Thunder planning meeting: this Thursday July 10 at 7:00 pm at Westport Coffee House, 40th and Pennsylvania (just east of Sun Fresh in Westport). Get in on the ground floor of planning and become a sponsoring group too. For more information call Bill Clause: 816-361-5147.
2. FTAA demonstration planning. Tuesday, July 27, 6:30 pm at UMKC Administrative Center 5115 Oak, KCMO 2nd floor Brookside Room. For more information call Emil Ramirez at 816-836-1400.
These will be great events, especially if you get involved.
Solidarity,
Judy Ancel |
