Announcement :: Crime & Police
Stop the Abuse Oct22 rally Current rating: 0
16 Oct 2005
On Saturday, October 22, the National Day Against Police Brutality, the Police Accountability Alliance is hosting a festival from 2-5pm in Ilus W. Davis park at 9th and Locust. The event will include guest speakers, an open mic, musical performances, workshops, free food and ice cream, information on community organizations, children's activities, and the presence of the Tactical Ice Cream Unit. Speakers will include MO state Rep. Michael Brown, and the National Lawyer's Guild and ACLU 2 will facilitate know-your-rights workshops. We invite the entire community to join us downtown in a fun, positive environment to celebrate our Kansas City community and to speak out against police abuse of power.

The Police Accountability Alliance is an organization committed to educating the community about police abuse of power and helping to organize civilian alternatives to total dependence on police for a safe and healthy community. The PAA strives to establish a Citizen Review Board composed of civilians that will review complaints of negligent police activities and make recommendations to City Hall based on those. The PAA is also concerned with creating awareness of police brutality and helping neighborhoods organize Copwatch. In order to reduce the need for law enforcement in our communities the PAA believes in organizing a healthier community where people have good relationships with each other and can mediate the majority of their problems without the assistance of a police force.
