Lets plan one now!

Commentary: Protest Activity
Any suggestions Jeremy?

Several people already plan to somehow protest, but logistics need coordinated.

Commentary: Protest Activity

SEE YOU THERE! 10-12 sept.4th

Commentary: Protest Activity
Word is spreading as we speak, and people are making plans to be there. The working relationships are kind-of-informal, but I expect they reach several hundred people by email alone. You can count on at least a few hundred being there, maybe more.

Commentary: Protest Activity
I would like to caution people that this sort of rally is ripe for disrupters. I am differentiating between people who would like to make us look bad and "anarchists" who are making a political statement. The rest of us MUST be aware and responsible for how we react and how we are perceived by our community, so IF anything uncomfortable happens, just get away from it. P.S. That includes me, and you may remind me that I said so if necessary.

Commentary: Protest Activity
Since the heat has lessoned, let's have a HUGE event!

The world is on the brink, and we should care about the public's perception? Hmm.

Commentary: Protest Activity
There are always provocatours in the activist community. Weve always been infiltrated and manipulated. You can bet that with Bush coming here it was planned months ago. Secret Service personal have been here and infiltrated long ago. I'm sure they know who each and everyone of us are and our level of involvement with particular organizations and activities. Security culture is something we always have to be aware of. Not really much anyone of us can do except be aware and trust those around you accordingly. Anyone new to your circles and acts impulsively without thinking about outcomes is of course either a newbie or a problem. Even those who are "vouched for" are sometimes found out to be agents of one sort or another. With a high level world leader this may have been planned a year in advance for all we know- thats a long time to get comfortable with someone now considered to be a regular or friend. Anyway.... A big event is what I advocate.

Commentary: Protest Activity
Here is my suggestion, we right now make no public plans to meet and discuss stratagy. No electronic communication describing where to "Meet" and hash out protest plans. Everyone form affinity groups and make your own plans with those whom you are comfortable with. Recrute "outsiders" for the protest but let no one you do not trust with your life in on any planning you may be doing. Simple as that. If we don't talk, no contigency paln levied against us can prove to be as effective as if they could pinpoint exact whereabouts and plans. I saw what happened at Bush's last visit including protests. It didn't look pretty.-My two cents

In Solidarity

Commentary: Protest Activity
I'm a local anarchist and I'm thinking about protesting Bush's visit. If I protest, I'm going to put whatever I like on my sign. And what's this bullshit about anarchist disruptors? I really don't think Kansas City ranks very high on the government's list of places to deploy provocateurs or infiltrators. I've experienced reall government repression in groups that I've work in and I can say that the cops aren't going to do anything to disrupt whatever plans develop to protest Bush, unless some big groundswell develops.

This nonsense about provocateurs is just paranoid anti-radicalism.

Commentary: Protest Activity
really. there shouldn't be any problems. just come downtown, have fun. Stand against the war, deficit, old growth policies etc. bring friends-lots of issues to be discussed. Obviously security will be tight. But GWB's administration is calculated they're probably willing to hire the gordon liddys, but KC is cow town. Whoever will come will come, lets build ourselves up, not act like the fools Karl Rove and Bill Frist want us to. If you see a problem, take a few steps away and travel in groups if you are concerned about your personal safety. Anything some law person wants to do will be recorded from about thirty five different angles. Thanks

Commentary: Protest Activity
I wasn't ringing in on the side of those who are "concerned" about the Anarchist contingent. I was attempting to calm those who get all worked up about this sort of thing by talking about what should be a concern while showing that it is a mundane topic. Personal security as a concern is just a given and to try to blame one group of people for any state violence or imply that one group may anger the state and then it in turn levy its anger against us is fallacious at best. That kind of thinking is common place amongst the reactionary left; especially here in KC. The idea that the state is somewhat benevolent but misguided and if we show enough love, compassion and gentle encouragement to do the right thing through non-violent demonstration and petition it will see that we are right and act in a manner more to our liking is pure fantasy. Violent repression by the state is just a given and nothing short of doing away with the state as something aside from the people will change that fact. And you can bet that with a high level world "leader" such as Bush, the state has its security in line, has assessed its "threats" and has already decided how and in what manner it was going to respond. Nothing is going to change that. If they've decided to line the streets with riot cops it isn't because the "anarchists" showed up and destroyed our nice little protest. Everyone should say what they want and act in a manner as they see fit. Period. This should be large and if the spineless liberals show some backbone it will be. Stand up and say what needs to be said; folks around the world who are on the recieving end of our country's imperialistic ambitions wouldnt think twice about showing up. We should be just as unwavering or we are just as bad as the government that claims to act on our behalf. Besides, its just a protest accross the street.

President Bush travels next week to three Midwestern states to talk about the sluggish economy.............
On Monday, Bush travels to Richfield, Ohio, where he will address members of the International Union of Operating Engineers and their families at a Labor Day event. A speech at the Chamber of Commerce in Kansas City, Mo., is on the president's schedule for Thursday. On Friday, Bush travels to Indianapolis to speak at Langham Co., a warehousing business, and attend a Bush-Cheney 2004 fund-raiser........................
This will be Bush's 13th presidential trip to Missouri...................

"He comes here because he knows Missouri is the battleground," he said. "Whoever wins Missouri will win the nation. Karl Rove (Bush's chief political strategist) knows that. And you can't rule out that he's playing politics with Gephardt."

Bush garnered 50 percent of the vote in Missouri in 2000 compared to Al Gore's 47 percent........... "

Right. Sorry if I sounded a bit shrill. I'm used to the protest hotbed of Washington, DC, so this discussion seems pretty odd to me.

If people are holding signs, they should be OK. Any problem will be created by the police. Sometimes the police decide they want to push people around and sometimes they'll try and make protesters invisible. One key thing to remember is that you shouldn't waste your time arguing with cops. They will foloow their orders and no amount of cajoling them are arguing is going to change their minds.

This looks like a good opportunity for folks to show that Kansas City rejects the Bush regime and his mafia crime family.

Commentary: Protest Activity
"...Bush garnered 50 percent of the vote in Missouri in 2000 compared to Al Gore's 47 percent........... "

Wouldn't be surprised if Bush would have LOST Missouri had there not been severe election fraud. Many thousands of (Black) voters in North St. Louis were prevented from voting. If most of them would have chosen Gore as the lesser of the two evils, and election fraud occurred elsewhere in the state, Bush might have very well lost in MO. Like Florida without the recount smokescreen.

Hope Bush's visit to KC has more protestors than last week's "unwelcome" in STL which had only about 350 anti-Bush protestors.

Commentary: Protest Activity
The St. Louis turnout of 350 was in 104 degree, sweltering heat. Yesterday's Ohio turnout of 350-500 was in the pouring rain.
Since the heat has finally broken, surely KC can double or triple that number.

St. Louis had several dubious problems with voting, including several precinct's optical scan method of counting votes (electronics ripe for possible curruption by Diebold). I think that Missouri's (nationally critical) race in 2002 was rigged from the get go.

Commentary: Protest Activity
I can't imagine that they'll let us in the Plaza. I'm guessing it will be completely blocked off and the "1st Amendment Zone" will be around Crown Center (being sarcastic, but we all know that the 1AZ's are usually miles away from whistle-ass). They'll make it as small as possible and pen us up in a tiny space.

Come prepared to MAKE NOISE and get the attention of the motorcade as it whizzes by at high speed. I'll be bringing some bags of whistles - I understand it pisses him off :)

Commentary: Protest Activity
I am not very familiar with KC. Could someone please describe the general area where the activity will be held?

Any parking hints would also be very appreciated.

Should we expect to be coralled (like sheep) into "First Amendment Zones"?

Commentary: Protest Activity
Municipal Auditorium is in downtown KC - check out mapquest.com and enter 301 W. 13th Street and you'll get excellent driving directions.

There's underground parking directly across the street from the auditorium, but it fills up quickly so try and arrive early. I'm guessing this garage might be closed for security reasons, but there are small self-serve above ground parking areas all around the auditorium.

Good luck, and give him hell!
