Taking back the media in Madison Wisconsin |
Saturday, November 8th
National Conference on Media Reform
University of Wisconsin Campus
Madison Wisconsin
www.mediareform.net
It is quite cold here in Madison, but the atmosphere is warm. The National Conference on Media Reform is packed, with every session I've gone to Friday and today packed to overflowing in the aisles with enthusiastic reformers. I've had the opportunity to speak with FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, Robert McChesney, John Nichols, Democracy NOW co-host Juan Gonzales, Ralph Nader, and many other people of all stripes who are concerned about the media.
Amy Goodman spoke last night and showed the video on Media in a Time of War that many of us in Kansas City had the pleasure-if that is the word for such a troubling piece- of seeing in Kansas City last week. If you haven't seen that one, buy one online at www.democracynow.org, or find someone who bought a copy at Unity on the Plaza last week and encourage them to put on a group showing.
There are lots of Indymedia people here, community radio people (WORT and others), Low Power FM advocates. I hope we can all plant some seeds when we get back to our homes. |

Sounds great! Anything with Amy Goodman, "the Goddess of Goodness," is impressive!
Thanks for the report.

The Be the Media! blog provided arguably some of the best reporting from the twin media reform conferences, including sessions devoted to IMC. You can find it at <http://www.bethemediablog.net/>. (being a contributor and organizer of it, I'm somewhat biased. but still, it has great stuff on it. ;-) |
