Announcement :: City Hall
Urgent Action Needed on Social Security Current rating: 1
03 Aug 2005
Modified: 12:10:38 PM
The KCMO City Council Meeting will vote on the anti-privatization resolution tomorrow, Thursday August 4! Come show your support!
The issue of Social Security needs your support locally.

Today the Social Security Resolution in the KCMO City Council made it out of Committee and is now up for a vote from the entire council.

Come show your support by attending the Thursday, August 4, 2005 KCMO City Council Meeting, at 3pm, on the 26th Floor, at 414 E. 12th St.

Recap:

During the Aug. 3, 2005 Legislative Rules and Ethics Committee meeting of the KCMO City Council, Council Member Bonnie Sue Cooper voiced her strong opposition to the resolution, which we are supporting, and is sponsored by Council Member Saundra McFadden-Weaver. Cooper's claim is that it is a partisan issue. We say, "Human beings are not partisan - and our futures are not either. This issue is about the lives of her constituents - not the agenda of Republicans and Democrats."

Council Member Cooper also stated that this should be left to the Federal Government.

Council Member Cooper failed to understand the power she holds as an elected official. She can influence higher elected officials, if she takes the poltical and moral high ground. Call her today and tell her to support the Social Security Resolution.

Public testimony was given from members of Missouri Pro-Vote, Rock the Vote, NAACP, and the UAW CAP Council. One person showed up in opposition to the resolution. Thirteen people showed up in support of the resolution.

We all were allowed the opportunity to speak, after Council Member Cooper attempted to limit public testimony to only two speakers.

Please call your Council Member today and urge them to support this important resolution.
