Who Can Afford to "Buy Blue"?
Take a look at BuyBlue.org's "Blue Christmas" campaign list of "red" and "blue" companies, and you'll see that BuyBlue Democrats play right into the hands of Republicans, who have been trading on an idea that the Democratic Party is the party of the coastal "liberal elite" and misrepresenting themselves as the party of mythical "Middle America."

Attacking Wal-Mart's Supply Chain
Wal-Mart's zeal to "hold the lowest feasible [inventory] level while avoiding the risks of 'stock outs,'" its competitive advantage, is also the weak link in its anti-union empire.

"War Is Not A Noble Enterprise"
"Robert J. Lifton, who did a lot of studies on the Vietnam War, called these “atrocity-producing situations.” It became very easy in Vietnam to shoot down a woman in a rice field as revenge for a comrade who may have stepped on a mine a few hours before."

YES! editor Sarah Ruth van Gelder asked Chris Hedges to draw on his years spent in war zones to reflect on the experiences of young Americans now fighting in Iraq.
“I have been in ambushes on desolate stretches of Central American roads, shot at in the marshes of southern Iraq, imprisoned in the Sudan, beaten by Saudi military police, deported from Libya and Iran, captured and held for a week by the Iraqi Republican Guard during the Shiite rebellion following the Gulf War, strafed by Russian Mig-21s in Bosnia, and fired upon by Serb snipers.... – “War is a Force that Gives Us Meaning,” by Chris Hedges

Commentary: Kansas City
Wal-Mart leaves little choice
In criticizing the “Frontline” program “Is Wal-Mart Good for America?” Jerry Heaster (The Star, Nov. 19) accuses the show of “ignoring the most relevant point” about Wal-Mart that individual consumers freely choose Wal-Mart and that “Wal-Mart has been a boon to lower- and middle-income Americans.”

Do consumers freely choose Wal-Mart? Not really. “Frontline” shows Wal-Mart's corporate purchasing strategy of using its size to bully suppliers to constantly lower costs until they have no choice but to move to China. While the documentary mentions China's entry into the World Trade Organization, it fails to explain how U.S. trade policies conveniently ignore the massive violations of human rights by suppliers in China, Mexico, Bangladesh and others and still get open access to U.S. markets, where consumers freely choose to buy products made by children because they're cheap.

Since Wal-Mart uses competition to force other retailers to do the same thing, those of us who choose not to shop Wal-Mart really have no choice. Where can you find U.S.-made TVs, shoes or women's clothing anymore anyway?

Heaster thinks that's OK since “those imports … are goods that U.S. producers have no business making anyway.” Excuse me, but American TV workers and their bosses didn't freely choose to lose their jobs so they could shop cheaper at Wal-Mart.

Announcement: Elections & Legislation
MASSIVE PROTEST against the media blackout of the STOLEN ELECTION 2004
It's headline news in the United States- the discrepancies
between exit polls and the official vote count and widespread
electoral fraud led international election observers to cry
foul.

Yet the corporate media is not referring to what happened in
Ohio, New Mexico or Florida, it's reporting on the elections in
Ukraine.

How is it possible that the mainstream media can miss the
glaring irony of the criticisms of the Ukranian election made by
Colin Powell and Republican Senator Richard Lugar?
