If Ashcroft Were Uninsured...
So, what would have happened if John Ashcroft was not Attorney General, didn't have health insurance and got sick?

Profile: "Unknown Soldier" Speaks Out To Bring Troops Home
A soldier back from Iraq discusses the war and the U.S. soldiers fighting that war, the suicides, and much more.
Interview by Daniel Redwood

Do you think the American public is well-informed about what is happening in Iraq?

No, I really don’t. I see young people on my medical table all the time, people who have lost their legs or arms or had other terrible injuries. No one back home sees any of that. I’ve been home for a month and I haven’t seen a casualty yet on television. I’m still waiting. Where are the casualties? It’s as if it doesn’t exist, as if it doesn’t happen.

What about Iraqi deaths and injuries?

We don’t care about Iraqi deaths. It’s something that does not even count. The hospital was told not to keep count. The Iraqi infrastructure does not keep an account of the deaths anymore.

Mendocino GE Ban Rattles the Biotech Industry
The 14,839 voters who this week banned genetically modified organisms in
Mendocino County have shaken the establishment far beyond their small North
Coast community.

Their success, the first in the United States, is encouraging voters in at
least two, and maybe as many as nine, other California counties to consider
pushing similar prohibitions on "GMOs," as the biotechnology products are
called.

Fearful of growing anti-GMO sentiment in California and nationally, the
biotech industry vowed to continue fighting Mendocino's initiative.

"I don't think we can afford to let it stand," said Allan Noe, spokesman for
CropLife America, the industry trade group that almost single-handedly
funded the No on Measure H campaign.

Jeffco voting machines concern some
The use of computerized voting machines has become more widespread in the last three years after a tight presidential race in Florida cast doubt on the accuracy of punch cards as a voting method.

Their prevalence has also been fueled by the Help America Vote Act, passed by congress in 2002, which provided money to local governments to help them modernize their voting machines.

Not all are convinced that this trend in voting technology is good, however.
