John Nichols: Go-along media ignoring Kucinich |
Submitted by: Tom Klammer / 10 Dec 2003
Publisher: John Nichols-Capital Times (Madison, WI)(linked on Alternet)
|
John Nichols points out in his column that when Diebold Inc., the company that produces electronic voting machines, tried to stop its employees from airing concerns about security, Kucinich succesfully put an end to its intimidation campaign. Yet there was not a word about it in the major media outlets, which continue to treat Kucinich as the "fringe" candidate.
Nichols also writes for The Nation, and with Robert McChesney started Free Press, which put on the Media Reform Conference in Madison in Nov.

Only dictators ban television news |

Even now, with the administration's pro-war arguments reduced to a pile of confetti, many news outlets have failed to demand accountability from the Bush administration for what appears to be systematic dishonesty in trying to justify the U.S. attack.

Diebold Withdraws Legal Threats |
Submitted by: tk / 30 Nov 2003
Publisher: Dennis Kucinich
|
Diebold Inc., one of the nation's largest electronic voting machine manufacturers, is withdrawing more than a dozen legal threats against ISPs for hosting users who publish or link to corporate documents suggesting there are flaws in its equipment and irregularities with certifying the systems for elections. Nor will it issue additional cease-and-desist notices concerning these corporate documents, US District Court Judge Jeremy Fogel heard today. Diebold has until this point waged an intimidation campaign to repress circulation of employee e-mails that raise concerns about the security of its electronic voting machines.

The physical therapists on the fifth floor of Walter Reed Army Medical Center have a bulletin board they call their Wall of Heroes. It is crammed with photos of young soldiers in their care — soldiers wounded in the war in Iraq.
The images of the amputees and burn victims stand out, a tragic irony of an important advance in military protective gear.
