Protester complains of injuries |

Civil liberties groups say a man hospitalized with head injuries is an example of how Miami police mistreated demonstrators.
Miami-Dade Assistant Public Defender Hugh Keough was outraged over the lack of medical attention Owaki was receiving in jail -- and told the judge so.
''He is constantly fading in and out of consciousness, your honor,'' Keough said. ``He needs access to medical attention.''
''I'm concerned with the safety of this community,'' Hernandez said. ``You just told me he was incapacitated. I will not accept the plea.''
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Despite that exchange, Owaki did not receive additional medical attention until after his friends bailed him out of jail at 8:15 p.m. Friday, according to Hall, the jail spokeswoman. The charge against him was reduced to failure to obey an officer.

''When you start shooting seniors with rubber bullets and using pepper spray on them and arresting them, it's just outrageous,'' Judd said. ``And if their stories don't get people's dander up and the public isn't outraged by this, then folks in South Florida have no heart.''

To the Miami Mayor (and Miami-Dade Mayor) Diaz and Penelas |

To facilitate this debacle I quote your brutal Chief of Police, Chief Timoney, who told the press he spent $10-11M to protect our city. I looked at many of the faces he was doing combat with. They were mothers, retired people, union members and children. You authorized an army who nearly outnumbered the protestors. You could have bought all the protesters lunch and a chance to peacefully talk to the FTAA representatives for a small fraction you spent to damage them.

The virtue of Medicare is that it creates a large risk pool. The wealthy and the healthy are in the same boat as the poorer and the sicker. Busting up Medicare's risk pool would almost certainly raise costs to poorer and sicker seniors, since insurance companies make more money insuring healthy people than sick ones. It would take an enormous amount of regulation to prevent this sort of "cherry-picking."

Miami Police Chief John Timoney commended the police for exercising “remarkable restraint,” during the FTAA meetings, while the Miami City Commissioner Johnny Winton said many of the protestors were “illegitimate,” describing them as “jerks,” “idiots” and “assholes” at a Friday afternoon press conference with county and city managers outside the Hotel Intercontinental.

Boycott Miami |

After this, Miami doesn't deserve our patronage - tell them you won't be by for a visit.
I am not an anti-FTAA protester but, I am outraged about the human rights abuses in Miami. I suggest like-minded people BOYCOTT Miami. A Boycott does no good unless you tell them about it. Below is the letter I sent to the civic minded gentlemen who run Miami
Sample Letter:
