Networking: Cheap health-records software
Unscrupulous doctors jack up billings using the Internet.

The federal government and commercial-software developers are offering doctors and medical clinics low-cost -- and sometimes free -- electronic medical-records software, hoping to spur the expansion of networked physicians' offices around the United States, experts told UPI's Networking. New uses for Blackberrys, PDAs soon
Exploitative work masters think of new "applications" for mobile communications to keep you tethered to your desk even in your deserved rest time. This is injustice.

CHICAGO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Phil Hammond carries a PalmOne Treo personal digital assistant with him almost all the time. "It's like carrying my office in my pocket -- I can get my e-mail, my contact list, my notes, even my combination to my locker at the Y," Hammond, marketing director for the Boston-based interior design firm of Margulies & Associates, told UPI's Wireless World. "There's an approach which says, 'Let's raise the stakes and call,'" says former Senator Gary Hart, a rare voice of principled opposition in the party today. "That if Republicans want a ten-division Army, let's be for a twelve-division Army. I think that's just nonsense, frankly. It's stupid policy. Trying to get on the other side of the Republicans is folly, both politically and substantively."

If Hart is correct, then why does so much of the Democratic strategic class march in lockstep?

The Wal-Mart Thought Police
By Amy Schiller, Campus Progress. Posted August 16, 2005.

The 'everyday low prices' superchain refuses to carry books and music that dare criticize conservative values.
Crucial, and hopefully successful, as these campaigns are, another lesson to take from Wal-Mart's censorship policy is the danger of corporate conglomizoration that stifles free media under the misleading name of radically conservative "family values."

Amy Schiller is a student at Brandeis University.

Cindy Sheehan: 'Why I must tell the president to stop the war'
Leave now, before another son dies needlessly in Iraq

By Cindy Sheehan, San Jose Mercury News

No one else -- not one more mom -- should have to lose her son in Iraq.

CINDY SHEEHAN is the mother of a fallen Iraq war soldier and the co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace. She wrote this article for Progressive Media Project, which is affiliated with Progressive magazine.

The Web: Founder sales flourishing
Capitalist profiteers are raping companies and sucking the life out of employees.

CHICAGO, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- During the late 1990s and into 2000, every Internet entrepreneur had the same dream: Start an online company and launch an Initial Public Offering on Wall Street a year or two later, becoming fabulously wealthy in the process.

Fast-forward five years and though the dream remains, parts have changed, experts told UPI's The Web.

Venture-capital spending remains flat, expected to be $21 billion this year, the same as last year, according to a joint survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Thomson Venture Economics and the National Venture Capital Association, and IPOs have not yet returned to their past peaks. By Gene Koprowski
